Summer Logbook is a small, private tool for keeping a summer reading-and-writing logbook. This page explains what information it collects, how it's stored, and who can see it. We keep it plain because it's meant for families, not lawyers.
Who runs it
Summer Logbook is operated by Mekoce Walker, a teacher and tutor, as a private tool for the families he tutors. It is not a public, general-audience product. Questions about privacy? Email masers_fifty6e@icloud.com.
Who it's for
The app is used by a child, with a parent, guardian, or tutor setting up and managing the account. It is not designed for children to sign up on their own without an adult.
What we collect
- Account details — if you create an account, your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google (nothing more).
- What you put in the logbook — the child's first name and trip destination; each day's entries (whether they read, wrote in their journal, and practiced math; a short note about the day; optional place names for the trip map; an optional photo of a journal page or an in-app drawing); a list of books; and reading-streak progress.
We do not use advertising, and we do not embed third-party analytics or tracking. We do not sell or rent anyone's information — ever.
How it's stored and who can see it
- Account sign-in: your logbook is stored in our database (Neon) and is access-controlled. It can be read by your own account and by the tutor (Mekoce Walker), who has read-only access to follow the child's progress. This path is not end-to-end encrypted.
- No-account "trip code" path: this path is end-to-end encrypted — the server stores only scrambled data and cannot read the child's name, photos, or writing.
- On your device: the app also saves a copy in your browser's local storage so it works offline.
Services we rely on
A few trusted providers process data on our behalf to make the app work: Neon (database and sign-in), Vercel (website hosting), and Google (only if you choose "Sign in with Google"). We don't share data with anyone else.
Security
Sign-in passwords are hashed by our authentication provider (we never store them in plain text), all traffic uses HTTPS, and the no-account trip-code path is encrypted on your device before it's saved.
Children's privacy
Summer Logbook is meant to be used by a child under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or tutor, who creates and controls the account. We collect only what's needed to run the logbook and never use a child's information for advertising or any purpose beyond operating the app.
Keeping, seeing, or deleting your data
We keep a logbook's data while it's in use. You can ask to see, correct, or delete your information at any time by emailing masers_fifty6e@icloud.com, and we'll take care of it. You can remove the copy on your own device by clearing the app's data in your browser.
Changes to this policy
